MotorShare Moves to Matchbox in Penrose After a Year of Growth

We have moved. MotorShare is now operating from Matchbox at 888 Great South Road, Penrose, Auckland.

It is a big step for us, but it feels like a natural one. Over the past year, MotorShare has grown quickly, our fleet has doubled, and the way our customers use our cars has continued to evolve. We needed a new home that could keep up with that momentum.

Matchbox had already become part of the MotorShare story, so when the opportunity came to bring the two businesses closer together, the decision made sense.

We chose Penrose because it works for both our customers and our day-to-day operations. The area is well connected to central Auckland, the motorway network and Auckland Airport, making vehicle collections and handovers more convenient for drivers coming from across the city.

For a growing luxury car rental business in Auckland, location matters. Cars need to be prepared, stored and moved efficiently, but the customer experience also needs to feel simple. Penrose gives us the balance we were looking for.

A Lot Can Change in One Year

When we look back at the past twelve months, the clearest sign of growth is the fleet itself. We have doubled the number of cars available through MotorShare in response to what our customers have been asking for.

Some want a supercar for a special weekend. Others are looking for a premium SUV, a convertible for a road trip or a performance car they have always wanted to experience. That variety has shaped the way we have expanded.

Today, the MotorShare fleet includes luxury cars, European sports cars, supercars, grand tourers and American muscle cars. The collection continues to change as we add new experiences and respond to demand.

Why Matchbox Was the Obvious Choice

Our relationship with Matchbox started well before the move.

For more than a year, we had already been using Matchbox to store selected vehicles from the MotorShare fleet. That gave us the opportunity to see how the facility operated, how the cars were looked after and how closely the Matchbox team understood the needs of owners and enthusiasts.

There was already a crossover between our communities too. Some MotorShare customers stored their own cars at Matchbox, while Matchbox members were interested in accessing vehicles beyond those sitting in their personal collections.

Over time, the partnership became less of an idea and more of an obvious next step. MotorShare needed space, specialist facilities and a partner with the ambition to grow. Matchbox offered all three.

The exciting part of this move is not only what it changes today, but what it could lead to next.

MotorShare and Matchbox are already exploring future driving days, private events and shared automotive experiences. With both businesses under the same roof, 888 Great South Road can become a natural meeting point for people who enjoy exceptional cars and the culture around them.

The idea is simple. Matchbox members can store and enjoy the cars they own, while MotorShare gives drivers access to cars they may not want or need to own. Together, that creates a more complete automotive community.

It is also a space where customers can meet other enthusiasts, discover different vehicles and become part of something broader than a standard rental transaction.

New Opportunities for Car Owners

The partnership also supports another area of growth for MotorShare: allowing selected privately owned cars to join our rental fleet.

Many luxury and performance cars spend more time parked than driven. For suitable vehicles, MotorShare is developing a carefully managed way for owners to make their cars available to approved customers.

Matchbox provides a strong base for that service, combining professional storage, vehicle care and direct access to a community of owners who already understand the realities of maintaining exceptional cars.

Every vehicle will still need to meet MotorShare’s standards for quality, condition and suitability. The goal is not to add cars for the sake of numbers, but to introduce interesting vehicles that genuinely improve the fleet.
